2019 – Your Year of Expansion

2018 was a year of radical transformation, digging deep into the depth of our being, purging, healing, changing, unfolding and for many it came with a question of identity: Who am I really? What is really important to me? 

2019 – The Year of Expansion, Growth and Becoming 

So, there are three BIG questions to ask yourself this New Year:

  • Why do I do what I do? 
  • Who am I (becoming)? 
  • What do I (really) want (to express)?

New Year Reflections

Before you make any resolutions, start the New Year with a bit of time for reflection: 

  • Who am I really?
  • What am I really doing?
  • What do I really want to do?
  • Who am I becoming?

Do it from a basis of self-acceptance – not looking at what is missing. It’s not about proving yourself to others, it’s not about the roles and expectations others have for you and it’s not about perfection either. A desire for perfection is not realistic and can lead to depression. Rather make it a reflection of: Who am I really? What do I want to do? Reflect from a perspective of your own path of growth, how you can move forward and expand.

Self-mastery 

The Foundations of Mastery, 12 Steps to a Fulfilled Life is being released this month. So the ‘How’ of self-mastery will be our key theme this year. The first Step of Self-mastery relates to power and purpose. Bring this as a foundation into your reflection. 

Power

More than ever before, the world needs you to act from within your true power; your gift of greatness. We may be thinking of great leaders in history who displayed remarkable strength and power, such as Gandhi’s power in gentleness that saved a nation, or Churchill who led the nation fearlessly during a time of war. This power and potential for greatness is in all of us. Now is the time to step into your true higher power for a higher purpose. Power is a strong foundation like that of a sturdy tree, solid and grounded. With power in the base, you can stand your ground, courageously and strong, while flexibly flowing with life, like willow branches in the wind, acting on your inner guidance in the moment. Embracing your true power is key to mastery.

Purpose

Start the New Year with a strong base from where to live your purpose. The purpose of life is to learn, grow and evolve. Your purpose may be multi-fold. Your inner purpose may be to overcome fears and limiting beliefs, claim your gifts and step into your power; set yourself free from criticism and opinions and follow your own path. Your outer purpose may be to challenge existing societal beliefs and judgement about rights and wrongs and about what’s ‘normal’; and to initiate or create something unique to you, that will benefit others, help them to heal, grow and evolve. All consciousness is connected, and as you move through your own fears into your giftedness and greatness, you also help to liberate and uplift the whole of humanity.

New Year Resolutions

Now is the time to ignite that fire deep inside. Goals are about the big picture; the higher vision. Sometimes we get too focused on the nitty gritty of everyday details and trivia. Yesterday, we went for a walk, climbed a hill and enjoyed a beautiful, higher vision and greater expansion. Sometime it takes climbing a hill to get out of the detail. That stimulates and inspires the mind to take in the bigger picture. What is your New Year’s desire and how can you align your goals with your purpose to make them truly meaningful?

Ask yourself:

  • Am I truly doing what I came to do? 
  • Am I ever becoming the best I can be?
  • How can I move closer to my highest potential this year? 

Goal-setting gets you from confusion, ordinary and random to clarity, growth and expansion.

Do You Believe You Can Do It?

It takes exactly the same mental processes to set and achieve small goals as it does big goals. So, you may as well set yourself big goals. Doubts can creep in. Do you believe you can I do it? Because 2019 is your year of expansion and growth, purge yourself now from any past limitations, boundaries and restrictions and create a new foundation. Step into those big boots and fill them. You have everything it takes to succeed already inside you. You are more gifted and powerful than you can imagine, you are it, you are ever evolving, becoming, unfolding. 

This is 2019, when you can finally break out of the mould; out of the conditioning of the past. Claim your gifts and step into your true creative power. 

Make 2019 your year of expansion and growth. May you be all you can be.

Early Spring Holistic Detox

I often get inspiration for my monthly blog from my discussions and interactions with people. It struck me recently that generally, people are still unaware of the impact of unhealed emotions on the physical health of the body. We know the body can do with a detox, but what about a holistic mental and emotional detox?

Why do we Want to Release Past Emotions?
Negative emotions cause stress hormones. If not worked through, these harmful chemicals are stored in the body. This is how, over time, unresolved, suppressed emotions can cause dis-ease in the body.

There is a researched link between suppressed emotions and illness like cancer. There is also a link between anger and high blood pressure and between heart disease and hostility or cynicism. There’s a link between weight gain and unresolved emotions as these harmful toxins are stored in fat cells away from the main organs – the body’s way of protecting the organs. Considering the powerful mind-body-link, a rigid mental approach – wanting to control the outcome of things, holding on to things or people too tightly and resisting change – can cause stiffness, aches and pains; even arthritis in the body. Conversely, research indicates that, generally people who are optimistic, intuitively know they have a choice, the ability to let go, to flow with change and to laugh at themselves. They have a basic trust in people, are robust and healthy.

The Mind-Body Link
Bruce Lipton says that more than 95% of all illnesses in the body are caused by the mind. Stress, fear and limiting beliefs are the cause of most modern day ill-health. This is interesting and also very empowering as it puts us in charge of our own health.

So, how about an early Spring holistic detox? There is a lot you can do to invest in your own health. Here are 7 easy self-care practices to kick-start your holistic Spring detox:

1. Mindful Emotional Healing
Spend a bit of time with yourself in mindful reflection. How do you feel physically? How are your energy levels? Lately, what have you been feeling emotionally? Identify theses feelings. Is it anger, frustration, blame, resentment, low feelings, depression, sadness, fear, anxiousness, worry, hurt, guilt or shame? By identifying and acknowledging the feelings, the healing can begin. Now focus on what’s causing these feelings in you? What are you learning from it about yourself? What can you change in you? With this new insight and growth, it’s time to let it go.

2. Letting go
Negative thoughts and low, or fearful or angry feelings can sap your energy. The simple practice of letting go can be very healing. Releasing the thoughts and emotions with intent, can make you feel lighter. This is another purpose of meditation. This way you can put the day to bed and tomorrow can be a whole new beginning, a clean slate. This is the beauty of life: everyday can be a new beginning.

3. Cutting cords
Our interaction with people around us naturally create connections, sometimes physically, mentally, emotionally and also energetically. Connections are made through rapport, touch, strong emotions (even anger and upset), strong thoughts and communication (even on the phone). Such interactions can keeps us connected, even after we’ve parted. So there is still a flow of thoughts, feelings and energy between us. If you have many such connections open, your energy can feel scattered and you can feel drained. You are supplying others with your energy. If you still feel angry or upset with someone, these strong emotions keep you energetically attached. That’s why that person remains on your mind. Sometimes to cut these cords we may have to go through a forgiveness process. Forgiveness restores your energy and your health and sets you free. This release can feel like a huge weight lifting as you put the past behind you peacefully.

A powerful healing meditation to cut the energy cords after you have interacted with people, is the Huna practice called Ho’oponopono. I use this fairly frequently to clear any thoughts or emotions after intense interactions, to let go of people on my mind, to cut cords and bring my energy back intact. In this way you can put the past behind you and relate to those around you afresh. Sometimes you have to say no to some of the demands people place on you, so that you can restore yourself and create balance between others’ needs and your own.

4. Refreshing
Many of the energy practices such as Yoga and Tai-Chi have the purpose of cleansing, refreshing and re-energising your energy. Walking in nature can be equally refreshing. Nature is naturally cleansing. When you walk near water or trees, you can intend that your mind clears, that thoughts wash away and that your energy field is cleansed in the breeze. Getting enough sleep is also refreshing. Sleep acts as a reset for the body and mind.

5. Clearing
Meditation is another way of clearing the mind, creating stillness and refreshing yourself mentally, emotional and physically. In a meditative state you can visualise a cleansing light showering down on you, cleansing the body and the energy field around you. Give the gadgets a break. The electromagnetic smog they emanate, impacts on your energy levels. Spring clean your house, clean your car and declutter with intent. When your environment is clear, your mind will feel all the clearer for it.
The inside creates the outside and the outside impacts the inside.

6. Re-energising
There is much you can do to re-energise yourself. We get energy from the food we eat, water we drink, soaking up sunlight and exercising. One of the most effective ways of re-energising yourself is through breathing practices – another purpose of meditation.

7. Breathing
The Importance of the breath
– Breath is life. As long as we breathe we are alive!
– Breath is energy. Through breathing we generate energy.
– Breath is spirit. As we breathe in – inspire – we enliven ourselves.
Benefits of breathing
The simple practice of deep breathing is the most effective way to:
– Energise yourself
– Detoxify – 70% of toxins in the body are released through breathing
– Relax – a longer out-breath, like a sigh, relaxes the nervous system
– Slow your heart rate
– Raise your energy to higher vibrations and you feel uplifted
– Clear the mind
– Align your mind, body and soul
– Restore balance.
