Self Care is Pro-active Health Care

– Your body is crying out for it

Self Care has recently been emphasised in the Transformational circles as a key practice. We are experiencing change in daily life at such a rapid speed. Self care is an empowering practice and has become more important than ever before. Self care is not a luxury that we attend to in spare moments. It is an essential practice for your wellbeing. Self care is a pro-active investment in your health. There is so much that you can do for yourself. This month’s blog explores what Self Care means and suggests 7 Practical Self Care Practices.

Why Self Care?

In our everyday fast paced life we can experience extremes of busyness, emotional upsets, disturbing news from all over the world and high demands on our time, all adding to keep us in stress mode for way too long. Electronic connectivity means we’re always at hand and the work-life balance becomes blurred. This often goes hand in hand with unhealthy lifestyles – spending too much time indoors, eating fast foods and processed foods and talking with people only on the other side of our gadgets.

When we become unwell we go to the doctor for medication, handing all our power and responsibility for our own health over to the doctor. Sometimes all it needs is to restore the balance ourselves and only you can do that. We are all going through a healing process at the moment – mentally, emotionally and spiritually. For some, the healing process can be quite intense, with more than one area of their lives feeling challenged – relationships, finance, work, home, health, etc. Inevitably it is part of your growth and evolution process so it is best to embrace it and take care of yourself as you flow through the process. It’s only through self care that you can anchor in and integrate the growth in consciousness that we are experiencing in intense waves in this transitional time we live in currently.

What Does Self Care Mean?

Self care means giving ourselves a break, spending time with ourselves and bringing much needed care, nurture and relaxation to ourselves. It can mean many different things to different people. We don’t all have the same self care needs. For some it may be doing yoga and keeping a gratitude journal. For others it may be dancing, painting or a walk on the beach. Your own self care needs may vary from time to time. Sometimes all you want is peace and quiet. Other days you may want to reconnect with a friend. It means giving yourself breathing space; time to reflect. It means calming the nervous system so that you can exit the stress mode and enter the rest, digest and relax mode of being. It means attending to the whole of you: mind, body, emotions and soul. It means taking care of your state of health and energy levels proactively.

How Practically Can I Practice Self Care?

Relaxation

Listen to music, have nap, a massage, a salt bath, read a book or simply daydream. Say no to some of those demands on your time and energy. Disconnect from technology – at least for a while. Use technology and social media sparingly and strategically as it can be a real energy drain. Your mind can get overloaded, your emotions impacted and your energy scattered. Only you can manage your own time and energy resources.

Stillness

Take some quiet time alone to rest, meditate and contemplate. Enjoy stillness and bring some calm to your nervous system. In stillness you can tune into your intuition and open up to your inner guidance – a precious gift.

Movement

Your body needs gentle movement to release tension. Engage in peace enhancing activities such as yoga, tai-chi or a walk in a green space. Do something playful or spend some time near water such as a lake, river or the ocean, to recharge your batteries.

Reconnect

  • Reconnect with yourself. Do something that YOU enjoy. Self care means coming home to yourself. This simple practice is essential for your own sense of wholeness.
  • Reconnect with nature. A daily venture outside will clear the mind and revive the spirit.
  • Reconnect with the present moment. Life can only be truly lived in the moment. All your senses come alive as the thoughts disappear.

Creativity

Cook a nourishing meal, garden, paint, enjoy your favourite hobby or learn a new skill.

Expansion

Engage in uplifting experiences like watching a beautiful film, a play or a musical. Learn something new or sign up for that course that interests you. Travel somewhere new. Travelling expands the mind, uplifts the spirit and opens you up to a broader, richer spectrum of life.

Compassion

Stop being hard on yourself. Stop any judgement or criticism about yourself and bring compassion to yourself. Change the critical voice to a compassionate voice. Reflect on your experiences compassionately, retain the wisdom and ditch the judgement. Keep your thoughts and speech about yourself positive to empower and strengthen your body, your mind and your life. Love and forgive yourself, always.

Pro-active Health

We can take good health for granted, assuming the body will just keep going. Self-care is a pro-active investment in your own health. We are responsible, first and foremost, for our own wellness. Our lifestyle choices regarding food, drink, habits, medication, physical activity, stress-management and leisure activity are primarily under our own control. We have considerable personal power to create the life and wellness we want. For inspiration here are 7 Ways to Boost Your Own Well-being.

The single overriding objective in wellness is creating constant personal renewal. Energy work is a great way to restore and renew yourself. Make these easy, yet powerful 7 Essential Energy Practices to Ensure Good Health your daily ritual for your proactive health.

Cosmic Overview and Current Energies

We are currently in the energy of new beginnings. The New Moon on Friday, August 30, 2019 is in practical earthy Virgo. So this is an excellent time for making a fresh start … read more.

2019 – Your Year of Expansion

2018 was a year of radical transformation, digging deep into the depth of our being, purging, healing, changing, unfolding and for many it came with a question of identity: Who am I really? What is really important to me?

2019 – The Year of Expansion, Growth and Becoming

So, there are three BIG questions to ask yourself this New Year:

  • Why do I do what I do?
  • Who am I (becoming)?
  • What do I (really) want (to express)?

New Year Reflections

Before you make any resolutions, start the New Year with a bit of time for reflection:

  • Who am I really?
  • What am I really doing?
  • What do I really want to do?
  • Who am I becoming?

Do it from a basis of self-acceptance – not looking at what is missing. It’s not about proving yourself to others, it’s not about the roles and expectations others have for you and it’s not about perfection either. A desire for perfection is not realistic and can lead to depression. Rather make it a reflection of: Who am I really? What do I want to do? Reflect from a perspective of your own path of growth, how you can move forward and expand.

Self-mastery

The Foundations of Mastery, 12 Steps to a Fulfilled Life is being released this month. So the ‘How’ of self-mastery will be our key theme this year. The first Step of Self-mastery relates to power and purpose. Bring this as a foundation into your reflection.

Power

More than ever before, the world needs you to act from within your true power; your gift of greatness. We may be thinking of great leaders in history who displayed remarkable strength and power, such as Gandhi’s power in gentleness that saved a nation, or Churchill who led the nation fearlessly during a time of war. This power and potential for greatness is in all of us. Now is the time to step into your true higher power for a higher purpose. Power is a strong foundation like that of a sturdy tree, solid and grounded. With power in the base, you can stand your ground, courageously and strong, while flexibly flowing with life, like willow branches in the wind, acting on your inner guidance in the moment. Embracing your true power is key to mastery.

Purpose

Start the New Year with a strong base from where to live your purpose. The purpose of life is to learn, grow and evolve. Your purpose may be multi-fold. Your inner purpose may be to overcome fears and limiting beliefs, claim your gifts and step into your power; set yourself free from criticism and opinions and follow your own path. Your outer purpose may be to challenge existing societal beliefs and judgement about rights and wrongs and about what’s ‘normal’; and to initiate or create something unique to you, that will benefit others, help them to heal, grow and evolve. All consciousness is connected, and as you move through your own fears into your giftedness and greatness, you also help to liberate and uplift the whole of humanity.

New Year Resolutions

Now is the time to ignite that fire deep inside. Goals are about the big picture; the higher vision. Sometimes we get too focused on the nitty gritty of everyday details and trivia. Yesterday, we went for a walk, climbed a hill and enjoyed a beautiful, higher vision and greater expansion. Sometime it takes climbing a hill to get out of the detail. That stimulates and inspires the mind to take in the bigger picture. What is your New Year’s desire and how can you align your goals with your purpose to make them truly meaningful?

Ask yourself:

  • Am I truly doing what I came to do?
  • Am I ever becoming the best I can be?
  • How can I move closer to my highest potential this year?

Goal-setting gets you from confusion, ordinary and random to clarity, growth and expansion.

Do You Believe You Can Do It?

It takes exactly the same mental processes to set and achieve small goals as it does big goals. So, you may as well set yourself big goals. Doubts can creep in. Do you believe you can I do it? Because 2019 is your year of expansion and growth, purge yourself now from any past limitations, boundaries and restrictions and create a new foundation. Step into those big boots and fill them. You have everything it takes to succeed already inside you. You are more gifted and powerful than you can imagine, you are it, you are ever evolving, becoming, unfolding.

This is 2019, when you can finally break out of the mould; out of the conditioning of the past. Claim your gifts and step into your true creative power.

Make 2019 your year of expansion and growth. May you be all you can be.
