The Significance of Emotions
Most of us have grown up in a modern-day society that values the intellect over emotions. Showing our emotions is just not the done thing, let alone expressing it. Many of our expressions don’t really encourage a healthy approach to emotions: ‘big boys don’t cry’; ‘bite your tongue’, ‘don’t speak in anger’; ‘count to 10 before you speak’. This approach can lead to the suppression of emotions. Consequently we don’t even acknowledge these emotions to ourselves. Especially negative emotions like anger, sadness, fear, hurt and guilt don’t feel so good so we tend to avoid them or suppress them. However, feeling these emotions is a normal natural aspect of being human and they are best acknowledged and expressed. From a therapeutic perspective, emotions aren’t a problem unless they are unresolved or suppressed. Feelings have to be acknowledged, at least to ourselves. They have to be felt and not suppressed. Suppression will just cause emotions to linger and grow stronger. Eventually unhealed emotions impact on our physical health.
As with pain in the body, our emotions are actually messages from the unconscious mind. Anger for example, can mean that someone may have overstepped your boundaries and that it may be time to re-assert those boundaries. Anxiety tells us that the mind is focused on a feared outcome and thus energising the very thing we don’t want. Sadness, hurt and depression are often a result of feelings that remained unexpressed and are now turned inward. If this continues over a prolonged period, it can impact on the body’s physical health.
The knowing and accepting of the feelings is the seed of healing. Paying attention to the emotion helps us to see clearly and so wisdom comes through attending to the feelings. A major source of suffering is wanting things ‘my way’. Everything happens for our own learning and growth. We can’t always see it when we’re in it. Soon you’ll look back and see how you have grown through it. Clear water reflects more light. When the murky waters of the unconscious mind is clear, wisdom shines through (Hanson 2009).
Why do we Want to Release Past Emotions?
Because of the Mind-Body Link. Negative emotions cause stress hormones which, if not worked through, necessarily have to be stored in the body. Unresolved, suppressed emotions can cause dis-ease in the body. The body reads the mind all the time.
Emotions can reflect our familial and habitual reactive patterns. Releasing emotions of the past is uplifting, healing and transformational. Once negative emotions heal and release, we can begin to experience positive emotions. The old is making way for the new.
Emotions have vibrations and this ladder of a Emotional Levels brilliantly illustrates the vibrational rates of the various levels of consciousness as measured by Dr David R. Hawkins (1995).

This ladder of a Emotional Levels are further expanded in the book Lifting the Veils of Illusion.
The lower negative emotions are more ego-based and the higher positive emotions are experienced when you are in you true higher self.
Emotional levels – as measured on this energy frequency scale from 0 to 1000 – are levels of consciousness. Where you dwell in emotions, there you dwell in consciousness. Consciousness – not DNA – is your blueprint for health. Consciousness, like an on-switch, changes the DNA and new possibilities open up and good health returns (Gill Edwards 2010).
Where you Dwell in Emotions, there you Dwell in Consciousness
It is natural to experience the whole range of emotions. One day you may feel optimistic and positive, and then comes a day when you feel low for no apparent reason. The question we have to ask ourselves is: “Where on this ladder of emotions do I find myself most of the time?” and “What emotions do I need to release to climb the ladder of consciousness?” At the bottom ranks of the ladder, the energy vibratory frequency is so low that, when we experience emotions like shame, guilt and depression, we can feel stuck. Here we feel a victim of circumstances and our health can be affected over time. Fear- and anger-related emotions start to generate energy and movement as we decide to fight or flee. Developing a healthy ego may bring some relief. With self-interest still a major motivator, we may from time to time be pushing against the flow of life. Releasing resistance and taking responsibility, begin to tip us into positive emotions. We are not quite free from the ego until we are truly able to practice acceptance and forgiveness. This is easier on the basis that we are one inter-connected whole. With forgiveness, we finally transcend the ego and become more of Who We Truly Are – our True Higher Selves. Clarity brings wisdom and previously evasive emotions of unconditional love, joy and peace are finally experienced as our true natural state. Youthfulness and good health, also our natural state, returns.
What Can You Do About It?
In the Transformational Therapies we facilitate gentle, yet powerful processes to enable you to heal emotions of the past. Emotions of anger, sadness, fear, hurt and guilt keep us attached to the past and as we heal these emotions, we set ourselves free from the past; free to create a new magnificent life. All healing is a release of fear. A powerful statement in a meditation are the words: I release…(eg this fear, this anger).
I would highly recommend Transformational Therapy that facilitates a complete clear-out of negative emotions and limiting beliefs. As a great self-help tool, you can listen to a Mindfulness Healing Meditation listed under Products. It is an inner journey that you can make for your own emotional healing as often as you want to release emotions and achieve lightness.
