So many of us experience busy minds as a result of modern day workload, pressure and stress. ‘How do I still the mind and stop the thoughts?’, I’m often asked. Balance is a life lesson for many of us. How do we achieve balance? It seems coming into the heart will do just that for us. The heart is in the centre of the body; a natural balance point. According to research done by the HeartMath Institute, heart coherence reduces stress and restores health.
“Coherence is the state when the heart, mind and emotions are in energetic alignment and cooperation,” HeartMath Institute Research Director Dr. Rollin McCraty says. “It is a state that builds resilience – personal energy is accumulated, not wasted – leaving more energy to manifest intentions and harmonious outcomes.”
In Western Society we have valued the brain and its logical intellect over emotions for far too long. We seem to have over-looked the power of the heart. According to this latest research, the heart-brain is more powerful than the head-brain and has a vastly expanded electromagnetic field; much bigger than the head-brain and extends several feet from body. When in this space you are more expansive, resourceful, connected and in a state of flow. Our heart energy therefore dramatically affects those around us.
The heart-brain seems instinctive and intuitive as it senses information in the environment before the cranial brain – and even before it happens – your own system of future precognition. It makes sense therefore to make decisions from the heart, intuitively; honouring that gut-feel.
Heart-based consciousness is the new way of being. It certainly seems to be the next step in our global and personal evolution. The healing and transformational process naturally takes us from lower emotions such as depression to anger to love – a quality of the heart.
Other qualities of the heart are joy, lightness, fun, light-heartedness, compassion, enjoyment and creativity. Most modern day dis-ease happens as a result of imbalance. Achieving balance here at the heart is therefore essential for good health and long-term well-being.
How do I make this shift into the heart?
Simply take your awareness, your attention into the heart. Open the heart centre through breathing practices. Meditate by putting your consciousness in the heart. Practice 1 to 2 ratio breathing – a calming breathing practice where you deepen the in-breath and make the out breath twice as long as the in-breath. Spend your time doing what brings you joy. Practice an inner smile to yourself. This is an old tai chi practice. Release deep rooted emotions so love can set in. Bring healing to yourself by being at peace with people around you. Practice forgiveness – use our Ho’oponopono Meditation. Practice compassion, starting with yourself. Self-love is a powerful healer. Let go of the need of approval, or the need to fit in. Be ok with being different. Your differentness is your specialness. Stop trying to fit in when you are meant to stand out. Practice unconditional love for everything and everyone. Love is divine power. Enjoy evolving and expanding beyond the rational material world view of your small ego self and embrace your intuitive, expansive, magical higher self.
