Recently the BBC reported a sharp rise in Anti-Depressant prescriptions in England. A total of 70.9 million prescriptions for anti-depressants were dispensed in England in 2018. NHS Digital figures show that the number of drugs issued – for conditions like depression and anxiety – increased by just over 5% from the previous year (67.5 million in 2017). This new total is almost double the number from 2008. Read the whole BBC article.

This increase could be as a result of increased awareness of mental health conditions in society. We live in turbulent times and the resultant uncertainty, can cause anxiety, stress and depression. Whilst more people seek medical advice, what else can you do to address the cause of mental and emotional discomfort? Medication serves more as a plaster on the wound, but seeking assistance from a mental health professional can help to get to the root cause. As you explore new mental and emotional approaches to the situations you are faced with, you can adjust your habitual reactions and mental thought patterns, allowing you to experience more permanent changes in your mood and mindset.

April is National Stress Awareness Month. Stress is our modern day illness. Stress, fears and limiting beliefs over time can create physical dis-ease. Bruce Lipton says that more than 95% of all modern day illnesses in the body are caused by mental stress.
